Senior / Principal Hardware Engineer

Quarch Technology is a world leader in test automation tools for the data storage industry and beyond. Based in Aviemore in the stunning Cairngorms national park, we design and manufacture our products in-house with a skilled team of engineers, technicians and operations staff. We are looking for an ambitious Senior Hardware Engineer with extensive experience in PCB design to develop our latest generation of hardware products and help drive our business forward by growing our range of products and services. This will include all elements from specification through development, final testing and release. You would be working with a small, skilled team of both software and hardware engineers and would own development through the entire product life cycle.  You will constantly be looking at ways to improve our products and processes and improve our products and services as we grow.

Responsibilities

  • Product definition
  • Schematic and PCB Design
  • FPGA/CPLD design and verification in VHDL
  • Signal Integrity Analysis
  • Device validation
  • Manufacturing Test Development
  • Internal and customer-facing documentation
  • Analysis of RMAs and field failures

This job is a full-time, permanent position, based at the company office is in Aviemore, Scotland.
Daily travel to the company office is expected, though flex-time is offered and occasional remote working may be possible.

Requirements

Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required

You must have experience of:

  • Schematic design
  • PCB layout
  • FPGA/CPLD design

It would be an advantage if you have experience in:

  • SPICE Simulation
  • High-speed layout (> 10GHz)
  • 3D Field Simulation

Manufacturing Technician (Trainee)

The Role

This role is hands-on and involves the final assembly, testing, and shipping of our products. Full training will be provided for all elements of the role.

The day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Assembling products using various tools, including arbor press, pillar drill, and standard hand tools (training provided)
  • Running automated tests on finished products
  • Maintaining and improving production documentation
  • Packing completed orders
  • Soldering (training to J-Std will be provided)

This job is intended as a full-time, permanent position.  This would potentially suit someone starting in the industry i.e. college leaver, or someone with previous experience in either manufacturing/production environment or electronics.

Your experience

 You must have:

  • Attention to detail and consideration of the quality of your work
  • Be able to follow processes and instructions
  • Ability to use basic computer software including Microsoft Office
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Basic knowledge of standard hand-tools
  • Strong communication skills
  • An interest in electronics/technology
  • Permission to work in the UK

It would be an advantage, but not essential if you have:

  • Previous soldering experience
  • Previous experience of working within the electronics or manufacturing industries
